The original sign was the “Swim at own risk” black & white motif with a dark wood frame. It was produced for a small investment bank in Frankfurt as part of an IPO marketing campaign in 1999.
In the following years it embellished the wall of the investor relations department of the bank. It was even shown in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), one of Germany’s most important daily newspapers.
Nowadays the original “Swim at own risk” hangs in the floor of a listed company in Hamburg/Germany. Nearly every guest and business partner stops and smiles in front of the huge and humorous warning sign. It’s always a good conversation starter.
